Dictionary of Medicines and Devices (dm+d)

In preparation for the future and in support of current projects such as GP2GP and EPS (Electronic Prescription Service), Mentor drug database has incorporated dm+d identifiers to allow standardised coding within electronic message exchange between systems.

Developed by the NHS alongside SNOMED CT, the dm+d (Dictionary of Medicines and Devices) is a dictionary containing unique identifiers and associated textual descriptions for medicines and medical devices for use throughout the NHS.

The dm+d will become the NHS standard for medicines and device identification, enabling clinical system interoperability between clinical systems by ensuring a safe and reliable exchange of information.

The Dictionary of Medicines and Devices (dm+d), known previously as UKCPRS now incorporates the Primary Care Drug Dictionary (PCDD), the Secondary Care Drug Dictionary (SCDD) and the Medical Devices Dictionary (MDD).
